Once Upon a Time moments I love
#9 - She diedThis scene was perfection in so many ways. It was Rumpelstiltskin being the perfect Troll that he is. It had sword fighting. It had banter. It had Rumpel&Charming Bromance.
However, what made it for me was when, for once, Rumpelstiltskin dropped the mask and all the mockery. He was so defensive about the fact that he loved someone, the fact that he loved Belle, because she was just that important to him. He knew it was true love. He knew he screwed up. And he knew every moment after she walked out the door that he wanted nothing more than to have her come back.
And when Charming, whether genuinely curious or just disbelieving, asks what happened, that moment of brief, fleeting grief that he allows to show is heartbreaking. This is Rumpelstiltskin, the pranksters, the trickster, the mocker, the japester. He doesn’t care, he doesn’t feel, he doesn’t love.
But in this tiny split-second of time, his mask falls off and he’s just a man with a broken heart and a chipped cup.
